The Motivation for Family Worship

Jeremiah 32

Having family worship or family devotions is an effective tool in raising children in the fear of God. The greatest motivation for faithfully doing this task is the promise of the gospel. Jeremiah 32 speaks about the New Covenant of Jesus and in that New Covenant God promises to do us and our children good. This sermon challenges us to have family worship because of the rich promises to our children.

Jehovah God, the true God, promised great promises to Abraham. Those promises were sure to come because God is the faithful God. He is no liar, but keeps his word. God's promises to Abraham have reached all the way to us today because the promise was Christ Jesus and his gospel. God is still faithful. In this sermon we will see that we can trust God's promises, and that when we do we live in joy.

When people come to worship God in church they are doing so in obedience to God. What they do at worship is also to be done in obedience to God. God, in his word clearly tells us what that obedience looks like. When God's people worship God, God's way they will be enriched to think and live right.

When God called Abraham to go out to receive the land of promise, he went trusting God. In this life of faith he, “looked forward to the city whose builder and maker is God.” Christians are also called to journey through this life by faith. It is comforting to know that as God led and blessed Abraham, he still leads and blesses Christians.
