Suffering and Christian Baptism

Rev. Henry Bartsch

1 Peter 3:18-22

Jesus said in Matthew 5:11, "Blessed are you when others persecute you on my account." Believers who suffer either by persecuation or other trials can be tempted to lose heart and wonder if God is our Father. However, God always keeps his children. Looking to all the pomises signified at our baptism we are encoraged to presevere. Remembering our baptism reminds us that the God who has redeemed us will keep us.

Sermons on the Sacraments: God's in Grace has Given Us Promises

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 17:1-11; Romans 4:11

When God revealed himself signs attended that revelation. God, however, not only spoke his word to mankind he also made covenants with us; and every time God made a covenant with his people he sealed it with a sign to show he would be faithful to his promises. The Sacraments of the church are signs and seals. They point us to the gospel of Christ and assure that God will keep all his gospel promises. This is good news.

God in Grace has Given Us Signs

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Romans 4:9-12; Hebrews 1:1-3

Does Jesus give less light to the world now that he has risen and ascended? No! He is still the sufficient light of the World! Can saving faith still come to us even though he is gone to heaven? Yes, he still speaks, calls, and redeems. How? By his Word and his sacrament. The sacraments are signs, aids to help us see and believe upon Jesus Christ for our salvation.

The Beginning of Communion with Christ is Union with Christ

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Ephesians 1:3-10 & 2:1-10

This sermon considers the doctrine of the communion of the saints. Communion means a shared participation with a person or group of people. Christians have communion with God, and communion with other people who have communion with God! However, the communion of the saints has a starting place, union with Christ. Being "in Christ" is an unspeakable blessing for all believers.
