Joseph the Dreamer

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 37:1-11

The train of events to bring Israel into Egypt is set in motion through the pride, jealousies, and consequent alienation between Joseph and his brothers. Do you think a family such as this is without hope? Families struggle with sin but God and his grace is greater than sin; and this gives hope.

The Church and the Kingdom of God

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Colossians 1:3-14

The church is the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. As such she is the tool and community through which Jesus makes his Lordship known in our lives and this world. When the church is being the church in accordance with Scripture, Christ's power and grace are made known to the communities in which we live.

The Church of Jesus Christ Is...

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Ephesians 1:15-23

The church of Christ is a special creation of God. It is the very house of God where God’s children are trained in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. But it is so much more than this. This sermon helps us understand what the church is as defined in the Bible.

God Works in our Personal Lives Too

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 35:1-15

God through many trials and difficulties changed Jacob personally. God as a loving Father worked in Jacob to make him more prayerful, trusting, and hopeful. This is why he confessed God to be his Shepherd. In his wise guidance God not only works in human history to accomplish his good purposes; he works in our personal lives too.

The Christian and Divorce

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Matthew 19:1-10

God's perfect design for marriage is one woman and one man together for life. Sin mars that perfect pattern and, left to his own devices, even Christians would permit divorce for any reason. However, God's Word gives clear limitations on such actions, and Christ's church must not go beyond the given limitations. Even though there is such allowance for legitimate divorce, brokenness and pain still ensue. We trust Christ and His ministry to bring grace in such trying times.

"Worshipping God Includes…”

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 28:10-22

Jacob did worship God at Bethel, but God first gave him grace. Before we can worship God, God must bless us. When God blesses us then we will come to serve him in worship and respond to his Word. What are those responses? Each response brings us delight because they are for God, our chief delight.

“God’s Word on Marriage”

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:1-10

Marriage must not be looked upon as a useful custom but as a divine institution. It is not man's idea but God's. The Westminster Confession of Faith says, "Marriage is to be between one man and one woman," and that "marriage was ordained for the mutual help of husband and wife." God has given every direction in his word to give his people a happy enriched marriage.

Two Great Certainties

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 27:41-28:9

Have you ever asked yourself if you will experience consequences for your wrong thoughts or actions? Or when you see so much wrong do you wonder if God's good will is being done? The life of Isaac's family gives us answers to these questions.

Christian Involvement in Government

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Psalm 2:10-12; Matthew 22:15-22; Colossians 3:16-17

Christianity says a lot about politics and it says a lot about Christians being involved in politics. Rendering to "Caesar that things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's" is part of the Christian life (Mt 22:21). Have you learned the balance between keeping the gospel first, and being involved in social issues at the same time?

Jesus Is Gloriously Alive

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Romans 1:1-7 & Heb 7:23-25

Were it not for the fact of Christ's resurrection, there would be no Christianity. (I Cor. 15:14) Though many assume that Christ did not, indeed rise, the assumption has no factual basis. Therefore, the reality of His resurrection has logical and biblical implications that must not be ignored. What are these implications... For us, and for Christ?

Human Government and the Christian

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Romans 13:1-7

A timeless question for the people of God is the issue of living in the Kingdom of God and, at the same time, living under God ordained civil governments. What is the Biblical function of civil government, and what is our response - particularly when the agenda's of God and man appear to be at cross purposes?

Isaac's Family Troubles and God's Faithfulness

Rev. Henry Bartsch

Genesis 25:21-34; 26:34-35

Strife, favoritism, lying, and disrespect characterized Isaac’s family. With such a litany of sins, one is tempted to think a righteous God would abandon such a family. What happens to the promises of God, and to His sovereign election plans? Can and does God still work through man made distortions of a godly life? Today, we shall see...
